Dividend Income - March 2017

While the second quarter of 2017 is well underway, let's see my dividend totals from March. Looking one year back, in March 2016 I managed to collect $150.30. Since then Avista Corp (AVA), Chevron Corp (CVX), Norfolk Southern Corp (NSC) and Textainer Group Holdings (TGH) have left my portfolio. But, Amgen Inc (AMGN) and Canadian Utilities (CU.TO) have arrived to replace those positions. Yes, quite a lot of re-adjustment has been going on. In total 16 companies paid dividend to me this month. Here is the comparison table of March 2016 and 2017 dividends:

All right, so the total this March was $184.48. This means 22,7% increase year-over-year. Generally speaking I would like to see at least 20% growth every month, so this is nicely above that target.

Great progress in MMM, TGT, and UNA.AS thanks to dividend raises and additional shares bought. And of course AMGN and CU.TO as new investments compared to last year. JNJ as my biggest investment by market value continues to be important income producer too. Here are my dividends in a graph:

Total dividends during months 1-3 this year: $470.91. This is 32,8% increase from last year. OK, this is a big number, but inevitably it will come down in the near future. In April dividend report it's time to include my annual Nordic dividends and that's when things get challenging, to say the least. My goal for this year: $3,300. This would be approximately 16% increase to 2016's income.

All these companies should pay again in June. Before next ex-dividend date I'm looking to buy additional shares at least in MMM, CU.TO and UNA.AS.

Please note that I don't make any currency conversions here. I report dividends as they appear in their own currency. This time CU.TO and ENB.TO were paid in CAD, UNA.AS was paid in EUR and the rest in USD. Additionally all numbers are before taxes. This prevents currency fluctuations and tax hassles from affecting my progress.

Thanks for reading. Dividend Income page has been updated to include March dividends.

Disclosure: Long all stocks that paid dividend in March 2017.
