Dividend Income - April 2017

All right, the month of April 2017 is finished and wrapped in a neat little packet. If you remember my April report last year, you know this is going to be a bit different kind of summary. That is because I'm going to include all my annual Nordic dividends in this report, no matter what month they actually arrive in my bank account (most will arrive in April anyway). I did the same thing last year, so this should be fully comparable. So, last year in April I managed to collect $1,230.93. I haven't sold any of those stocks that generated income back then, which is ideal situation IMO. This dividend report consists of following 22 companies:

All right, so the total this month was $1256.71. This means 2,1% increase year-over-year. Generally speaking I would like to see at least 20% growth every month, so this is clearly below that target. Once again my Nordic dividends showed their unpredictable nature. This time the big letdown was Telia, like you can see their distribution was reduced by 1/3 or so.

If I exclude Nordic dividends from the picture counting only my North American investments, I will get these kind of numbers. April 2016: $106.38 vs. April 2017: $147.07. Increase of 38,2%. This clearly shows that I'm still making good progress within my active portfolio.

Great progress with AQN.TO thanks to dividend raises and additional shares bought. And of course XEL as a new investment compared to last year. But the biggest income producer (within my active portfolio) this month was BNS.TO slightly ahead of WPC. Here are my dividends in a graph:

Total dividends during months 1-4 this year: $1727.62. This is 9,0% increase from last year. Even though growth wasn't huge in April, I must say that I'm in much better position now than a year ago. You know, last year April pushed me in the red! Now I'm still firmly on the positive side, and progress should be steady during rest of the year. My goal for this year: $3,300. This would be approximately 16% increase to 2016's income.

All these (North American) companies should pay again in July. Before next ex-dividend date I'm looking to buy additional shares at least in AQN.TO. Well, that was unusually short list. The reason is that I'm seriously considering a new position which would have the JAN/APR/JUL/OCT payment schedule.

Please note that I don't make any currency conversions here. I report dividends as they appear in their own currency. This time AGU.TO, BNS.TO and RCI.B.TO were paid in CAD, FORTUM.HE, METSO.HE, NOK.HE, NDA.HE, SAMPO.HE, TELIA.HE, TIE.HE and VALMT.HE were paid in EUR and the rest in USD. Additionally all numbers are before taxes. This prevents currency fluctuations and tax hassles from affecting my progress.

Thanks for reading. Dividend Income page has been updated to include April dividends.

Disclosure: Long all stocks that paid dividend in April 2017.
